SGS has carried out independent verification of the Report in the area of sustainable development in the territory of the Russian Federation in 2004-2005 drafted by the Russian gas producer NOVATEK. The audit followed SGS methodology according to “Level 1” and consisted in verification of the Report’s text and data authenticity.

The SGS auditing team formed to implement this assignment included experts with the following qualification:

  • certified IRCA expert for verification in the area of sustainable development,
  • leading auditor in the area of quality and social responsibility SA8000.

The verification work resulted in issuance of the conclusion stating that the Report’s data are accurate, valid and reflect in an objective and balanced way NOVATEK’s activity in the area of sustainable development in 2004-2005, including economical, environmental and social aspects.

Founded in 1994, NOVATEK is engaged in the exploration, production and processing of natural gas and liquid hydrocarbons and had 4.6 billion oil equivalent barrels of proved reserves at the end of 2005. The Company’s upstream activities are concentrated in the Yamal-Nenets Region, which is the world's largest natural gas producing area and accounts for over 90% of Russia's natural gas production and 20% of the world’s gas production.
