At the beginning of 2007, the quality management system of the Laboratory Animal Breeding Facility has successfully undergone the certification audit in terms of compliance to the international standard ISO 9001:2000.

On April 26, 2007 Konstantin Timoshechkin, Systems & Services Business Manager of SGS Vostok Limited, presented the certificate to Chief Veterinarian of the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, Russian Academy of Sciences and Head of Scientific Production Division “Laboratory Animal Breeding Facility” Georgy Telegin, Ph. D. in Biology.

According to Georgy Telegin, preparation to certification enabled the organization to streamline and optimize business processes. All the documents developed for certification purposes, including the Quality Manual have indeed become working documents of the Breeding Facility and have been regulating its operation.

Academician Anatoly Miroshnikov, Deputy Director of the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, Russian Academy of Sciences, congratulated the Laboratory Animal Breeding Facility team for having been certified and expressed the hope that the ISO 9001 certificate will boost further development of the organization.

Representatives of the International Science and Technology Centre (ISTC), which had financed the project, Laura Schmidt Williams and Alexey Vinogradov noted the significant successes achieved by the Breeding Facility thanks to professionalism and enthusiasm of its staff.

Konstantin Timoshechkin emphasized the importance of international certification in view of Russia’s accession to the WTO and of the bio-industry potential.

The Laboratory Animal Breeding Facility, affiliated division of the Russian Academy of Sciences, categorized under SPF, is unique for Russian and the CIS. The major objective of the Breeding Facility “Pushchino” is in providing standardized laboratory animals to researchers so that they obtain reliable and reproducible results from their medical and biological experiments.
