Environmental Management System of Zhigulevskaya Hydropower Plant has been certified
Zhigulevskaya Hydropower Plant (HPP), branch of Russia’s biggest hydro-generating company JSC RusHydro, has successfully undergone the certification audit by SGS as compliant to the international ISO 14001:2004 standard. This certification has been part of the Environmental Management System Implementation project initiated by RusHydro in 2007.
In early October 2008, the team of SGS auditors worked at Zhigulevskaya HPP. As a result of the audit the Hydropower Plant has been recommended for the issuance of the certificate of conformity to the international ISO 14001 standard within Electrical Energy Production category.
“The audit proved of the fact that the Plant has been satisfying to up-to-date environmental norms and requirements. The study included interviews, analysis of documentation and observations”, - noted Konstantin Timoshechkin, Head of Systems & Services Certification in SGS Vostok Limited, the Russian subsidiary of SGS.The Environmental Management System would be implemented at all Hydropower Plants being members of JSC RusHydro. This project is part of the environmental policy of the company based on energy saving and sustainability.
“We consider the Environmental Management System as integral part of the corporate management system of JSC RusHydro and are continuously improving this area. All the company’s branches have always complied with Russian legal environmental requirements but we decided to go further. For the 1.5 year period we have worked hard to improve our Environmental Management System, now approved by internatiohnal experts. The ISO 14001 certificate is the passport of our responsibility assumed in front of the government, business and population”, - commented Member of the Board of JSC RusHydro Boris Bogush.
