Everything from product quality control to safety and quality management throughout the food supply chain was highlighted at the SGS Quality Forum which took place on June 3-4, 2010 in Moscow and gathered together about 100 professionals from the Russian food market, including representatives from Rostekhregulirovaniye, Rospotrebnadzor, Rosselkhoznadzor national retail chains, agriculture, manufacture of ingredients, auxiliary materials, packaging and food products as well as catering.

The event was organized by the SGS Group, a world leader in inspection, verification, testing and certification services with its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. Managers of Coca-Cola HBC Eurasia, real,-Hypermarket, Metro Cash and Carry, Х5 Retail Group, Belaya Dacha Trading, Vimm-Bill-Dann, Atlantis-Pak, Unilever Rus, Bunge CIS, Unimilk, Dirol Cadbury, RostAgroExport and many others took an active part in the discussion.

Apart from HACCP, ISO 9001 and IFS, which are already well-known in Russia, a number of more recent food safety standards such as ISO 22000, PAS 220, ISO 22002 and FSSC were presented at the Forum. A range of presentations concerned practical aspects of implementing and developing food safety management systems at Russian enterprises, namely, the use of statistical methods, systems’ automation and hazard management.

Particular attention in the discussions was paid to food traceability and to cooperation between food supply chain members from field to retail outlet. Providing training for partners within the supply chain, joint analysis and development of solutions to eliminate problems and motivation of partners to implement advanced management systems standards are the components of an effective cooperation formula, in the opinion of Food Forum’s delegates.
