Bunge CIS Obtained GMP+ and HACCP Certificates
Bunge CIS has successfully undergone the SGS certification under the international standard GMP+ for production of feed materials from sunflower seeds and became the first producer of feed meal from sunflower seeds in Russia to be certified under this scheme. Besides, Bunge CIS’ management systems has been assessed and certified by SGS as compliant with HACCP Codex Alimentarius with regard to production, packaging and shipment of sunflower-seed oil and oil mixtures as well as to production of feed meal from sunflower seeds.
The GMP+ Feed Safety Assurance scheme (GMP+ FSA) has been developed since 1992. The GMP+ FSA scheme is an international standard for assuring feed safety in all the links in the feed chain. One of the key contributory factor to develop the scheme was the damage caused by contamination incidents within the animal production chain.
Today, almost 11,000 companies are certificated under GMP+ FSA in over 65 countries. The GMP+ Certificate is pre-requisite when supplying feed to EC countries.
The GMP+ standard similarly to the majority of other international food safety management standards (such as ISO 22000, BRC, IFS, FSSC), is based upon HACCP principles consisting in the analysis of hazards relating to the product’s safety and consequent implementation of hazard control measures to prevent or reduce the risk down to an acceptable level.
Nataliya Kolosovskaya , Quality Assurance Manager at Bunge CIS : “At present time, the feed safety assurance issues range in the priority list within the food supply chain. In this connection, the GMP+ certificate is the mandatory condition for feed delivery to the EU. Exports account for an important part of our company’s activity and GMP+ certification has been the logical step in the framework of the Bunge CIS business strategy implementation. However, we are not going to stop by the achieved and intend to further improve our food safety management system by implementing best international practices and state-of-the-art standards”.
Alexander Kuznetsov, South Russia Branch Manager of SGS: “The basic principle of the GMP+ FSA scheme is that feed materials are part of the food supply chain, which explains the attention paid to feed meal in terms of safety. GMP+ gives a practical toolkit to producers to assure their product’s safety”.
