ASTON Certified by SGS under the BRC Standard
Morozovsk plant for production of vegetable oils (the Morozovsk subsidiary of ASTON) has been successfully certified by SGS under the BRC Global Standard for Food Safety (British Retail Standard).
The certificate was issued as a result of the plant’s audit, which enabled the SGS auditor to verify a number of parameters, including the availability and effectiveness of the HACCP plan and of Prerequisite Programmes, required by BRC Standard.
The BRC Global Standard for Food Safety was developed by the British Retail Consortium with the objective to set the minimum requirements of hygiene in food manufacturing plants that supply to the United Kingdom retail chains.
In order to develop exports ASTON, one of the largest Russian producers of foodstuff, obtained the first BRC certificate in 2009. The certification procedure under the BRC Global Standard for Food Safety implies annual audit from certification body. In August 2010, SGS, the world’s leader in inspection, verification testing and certification services, conducted the next certification audit of the Morozovsk subsidiary of ASTON confirming the plant’s compliance with the BRC Standard’s requirements.
“Traditionally, ASTON has been paying particular attention to food product quality and safety, emphasized Vadim Vikulov, General Director of ASTON. — The BRC certificate issued by such a competent certification body as SGS demonstrates once again the international level of food safety assurance at the Morozovsk plant”.
Alexander Kuznetsov, South Russia Branch Manager of SGS, noted: “Export volume of consumer foodstuff from Russia is very low, and the fact that ASTON is one of the few suppliers to the European market is to a large extent due to the company’s systematic approach to quality and food safety management”.
ASTON is one of the largest Russian producers of food products, food ingredients and components for fodder manufacture and the leading exporter of agricultural products and vegetable oils. ASTON Group incorporates factories producing vegetable oils in Millerovo and Morozovsk (Rostov region), the plant for production of flour and rice cereals in Varenikovskaya (Krasnodar region), elevators in Rostov and Krasnodar regions with total capacity 660 thousand tons, the port terminal on Don river with capacity 6 million tons of grain per annum, the ship-building plant Moryak, dry cargo ships and tankers for transportation of vegetable oils, the fleet of over 200 vehicles, agricultural farms processing 40 thousand ha of land in Rostov region.
