Ex Proof Equipment Included to SGS Scope of Accreditation in Russia
We are pleased to inform that in July 2011 the Product Certification Body of SGS Vostok Limited, the Russian subsidiary of the SGS Group, extended its scope of accreditation and started to issue GOST R certificates of conformity for ex-proof equipment.
SGS has been offering GOST R product certification services since 1993, when the company has first been accredited by Gosstandart of Russia to provide conformity verification services for products to be to be placed on the Russian market. With the structure of Russian imports gradually changing and with new technical regulatory novels introduced SGS has been revising its capabilities by training experts, opening new testing facilities and extending the accreditation scope.
Since 11 July 2011, the accreditation scope of the Product Certification Body of SGG Vostok Limited has included the following positions:
- Ex-proof equipment for explosive zones;
- Ex-proof electrical equipment being part of mining, power, fuel, industrial, chemical, oil, building, automotive, piping and other types of machinery;
- Drilling and mining tools.
There are particularly strong requirements towards ex-proof certification bodies and only 41 out of 1490 certification bodies active within GOST R system are empowered to certify this product category. SGS is now one of those.
The first certificates within the new accreditation scope have been issued for ex-proof electrical equipment supplied to Koshekhablskoye Gas Condensate Field in Republic of Adygeya (Russia).
‘Due to the growth of industrial engineering in Russia with the participation of foreign investors, EPC contractors and suppliers imports of ex-machinery into Russia have been growing. The SGS involvement in many industrial projects in the Russian territory enabled us to identify a number of issues related to conformity verification of electrical ex-proof equipment, including measurement instruments against Russian norms. Certification through subcontracted certification bodies did not always allow to analyze technical documentation fast enough and to timely react on the in-coming requests because of lack of resources of the few certification bodies available. The new accreditation will help us to increase speed and quality of our services’, said Vladimir Ovcharov, Head of Product Certification and Industrial Safety at SGS Vostok Limited.
