Management System at Romcor Certified against ISO 22000
Romcor Corporation, the leading meat-processor in South Urals, has been certified by SGS against ISO 22000. The SGS certificate was issued on 12 February 2014 for the duration of 3 years under the condition of annual confirmation of the workability of the certified food safety management system.
HACCP principles (Hazards Analysis and Critical Control Points) have been implemented in Ramcor since 2010 facilitating the establishment of a food safety management system in the plant according to international requirements. In 2011, Romcor started to thoroughly study and to gradually implement ISO 22000 requirements. Active participation of Romcor’s key staff in SGS training courses and conferences focusing on food safety helped the company to get prepared to certification.
Dmitry Myasnikov, Director of Romcor Meat-Processing Plant: ‘Today, the public health nutrition policy of the Russian Federation aims at managing, protecting and preventing public health. Food safety and quality issues gain primary importance. Those companies that are able to produce quality and safe food will be the market leaders. Our enterprise was built in Soviet times with modern standards being neglected, our personnel was subject to stereotypes. We realized the scope of our misfortune quite well. But thanks to result-orientation and our openness to changes we managed to successfully undergo certification process and to achieve international level’.
Dmitry Nikitin, Deputy Manager, Urals and Siberia Branch of SGS Vostok Limited, the Russian subsidiary of the SGS Group: ‘SGS auditors noted the high level of involvement and understanding of employees within the food safety management system’s implementation process. Such a high level of involvement helped to cope with the complex task of implementing the system without any assistance from consultants. It is also important that the company’s management established a strong food safety assurance team capable of maintaining and improving the management system’.
Olga Kuzmina, Quality Director of Romcor Meat-Processing Plant: ‘Obtaining ISO 22000:2005 certificate has not been an easy task. SGS auditors checked documents, all manufacturing processes, equipment and staff competence. They observed absolutely everything: how our employees are dressed, how they answer questions, how they fulfill their responsibilities.
But audits are always useful, they are always a way to grow. Moreover, when this growth comes in a convenient way (and this is the way SGS auditors conduct audits, point out non-conformities, change mentality and corporate culture) then this is double growth.
I am happy to be part of the process of launching and manufacturing a product with worthy characteristics. I monitor quality and realize how processes are streamlined. I am proud to recommend our products to my relatives and friends. I am pleased to organize degustation of our products and guide groups through our facilities because there is much to be proud of’.
Romcor is the largest meat-processing corporation in South Urals. Its history started 18 years ago from a small workshop. Today, the company produces up to 120 tons of products per day. Over 650 thousand families opt for Romcor brand.
