We are pleased to announce that the relocation of our St. Petersburg Testing Center to new premises with a total area of 1,650 m2 has been completed.

This new testing facility has united several diverse business areas under one roof:

  • Oil, petroleum product and gas testing
  • Petroleum additive efficiency testing
  • Oil condition monitoring
  • Coal and fertilizer testing

To facilitate the move large-scale design and construction work was carried out and the laboratories were equipped to meet modern trends, best practices and take full advantage of the expertise and experience of SGS experts. As a result, productivity has increased and a reserve has been created for further diversification of the service portfolio and further expansion of SGS’s market share in the North-Western region of Russia.

With this expansion, the testing facility in St. Petersburg has become the largest SGS multi-laboratory hub in Eastern Europe with capacity of 200,000 tests on 50,000 samples annually. The tests are carried out in accordance with both international and Russian national standards (GOST, ASTM, EN, ISO, IP).

Petrochemical laboratory

The oil, petroleum products and gas laboratory covers almost the entire range of commercially required quality indicators for products including:

  • Natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG)
  • Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG)
  • Oil and gas condensate
  • Gasoline (straight-run, automobile)
  • Kerosene (including fuels for aircraft jet engines of the TS-1, RT and Jet A-1 brands)
  • Diesel
  • Marine fuels
  • Fuel oils, tar and bitumen
  • Various technological fractions of oil and gas condensate refining


This laboratory has equipment that allows the team to conduct tests of any degree of complexity, including:

  • Gas chromatographic analysis of component composition, and control of the content of ultra-low concentrations of impurities
  • Determination of the content of aromatic hydrocarbons in medium distillates by liquid chromatography
  • Distribution of oil fractions over boiling temperature ranges by the simulated distillation of oil and heavy petroleum products (gas oil, fuel oil, tar)
  • Determination of the trace elements in petroleum products

The laboratory has:

  • 16 gas chromatographic and liquid chromatographic complexes (GC / HPLC)
  • An ion chromatograph for the determination of halogens (IC)
  • Atomic absorption and atomic emission spectrometers (ICP / AAS / GTA /HG)
  • Mercury content analyzers in liquid and gaseous media
  • Elemental impurity analyzers (chlorine, sulfur, nitrogen)
  • Microwave sample preparation systems
  • A fleet of modern automated equipment to meet all key quality indicators

Work in the laboratory is carried out around the clock, seven days a week.

Minerals laboratory

The minerals laboratory performs quality control for:

  • Coal
  • Coke
  • Biofuels
  • Urea
  • Complex mineral fertilizers

In accordance with Russian and international standards, the laboratory uses the most advanced equipment for determining the physical and chemical parameters of mineral products, including monitoring the content of toxic elements.
