EU Publishes Latest List of Harmonized Toy Safety Standards

The EU cites five new standards for presumption of conformity with the Toy Safety Directive and amends two entries in the standard for finger paints. These new standards will completely supersede their corresponding standards on February 28, 2019.
Europe Restricts the Use of Tagetes Erecta, Tagetes Minuta and Tagetes Patula Extracts and Oils

European Commission prohibits the use of Tagetes erecta flower extract and Tagetes erecta flower oil, and at the same time restricts the use of Tagetes minuta and patula extracts and flower oils in cosmetic products.
New York State Proposes to Expand BPA Prohibition

The US state of New York introduced a proposal to expand existing legislation that prohibits BPA in childcare products. If signed into law, the new measures will become effective on December 31, 2019.
California Proposition 65 Reformulation of DEHP in Consumer Products

A number of Prop 65 settlements involving DEHP have been reached for a wide variety of products. The parties in many of these settlements agreed to reformulate DEHP to less than or equal to 0.1%. Many of the settlements also allow the use of a Prop 65 warning as an alternative.
BBQ Enamelled Grills Can Release Unsafe Amounts of Heavy Metals into Food

A study by German authorities of enamelled cooking grates was conducted to investigate on the release of several metals during food preparation. It showed that several products available on the market release unsafe amounts of nickel and arsenic into food.

Compliance with the New California Proposition 65 Warning Requirements in August 2018

The new consumer warning requirements promulgated by the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) in August 2016 will take full effect in August 2018. The California Proposition 65 regulation prohibits retailers and manufacturers from knowingly and intentionally exposing California consumers to a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects or reproductive harm without providing a “clear and reasonable warning”. The content and rules for the warning have been revised.
